Autocatalytic Sets and the Origin of Life
The origin of life is one of the most fundamental, but also one of the most difficult problems in science. Despite differences between various proposed scenarios, one common element seems to be the emergence of an autocatalytic set or cycle at some stage. However, there is still disagreement as to how likely it is that such self-sustaining sets could arise “spontaneously”. This disagreement is ...

abstract: about 60% of total premium of insurance industry is pertained?to life policies in the world; while the life insurance total premium in iran is less than 6% of total premium in insurance industry in 2008 (sigma, no 3/2009). among the reasons that discourage the life insurance industry is the problem of adverse selection. adverse selection theory describes a situation where the inf...
15 صفحه اولAutocatalytic sets and boundaries
Autopoietic systems, chemotons, and autogens are models that aim to explain (the emergence of) life as a functionally closed and self-sustaining system. An essential element in these models is the notion of a boundary containing, maintaining, and being generated by an internal reaction network. The more general concept of collectively autocatalytic sets, formalized as RAF theory, does not expli...
متن کاملAutocatalytic sets and biological specificity.
A universal feature of the biochemistry of any living system is that all the molecules and catalysts that are required for reactions of the system can be built up from an available food source by repeated application of reactions from within that system. RAF (reflexively autocatalytic and food-generated) theory provides a formal way to study such processes. Beginning with Kauffman's notion of "...
متن کاملContinuous growth of autocatalytic sets.
We investigated a topology of the reaction network for polymerization of amino acids as the emergence and the continuous growth of autocatalytic sets. Reaction networks including transpeptidation reaction can yield newer and longer peptides with time having higher concentrations. Conditions necessary for the occurrence of transpeptidation can be met in actual amino acid/peptide systems.
